Again...my poor blog. Such a neglectful owner I've been. Let me try and mend the error of my ways.
This was quite a while ago, but a most fantastic dinner party was thrown by me and some of my friends. Here are some pictures:
This was quite a while ago, but a most fantastic dinner party was thrown by me and some of my friends. Here are some pictures:
My friend Megan made this delighful/beautiful salad! Spinach leaves, red onions, and strawberries tossed in a balsamic dressing. IT WAS SO GOOD. I ate half of it, probably. And if that pretty wooden bowl ever turns up missing, well...it wasn't me. I'm just saying.
I made Julia Child's famous Leek and Potato Soup. It was fabulous, if I do say so myself! It was very simple to make and I added a few sliced leeks after the soup was finished.
I also made smittenkitchen's Moroccan-Spiced Spaghetti Squash. I just recently discovered the joy of spaghetti squash a few months ago, and I really enjoyed the flavor of this. The ingredient list can make some think that the flavors might be too crazy or intense, but it was actually a pretty mild dish.
DISCLAIMER: I, unfortunately, did not take this beautiful picture. My favorite blogger (Pioneer Woman) did. However, this is a picture of a Creamy Lemon Crumb Square. I made these for dessert the night of the dinner party. I absolutely loved them, even though I thought the filling was a little too thin. I made them again for my mom during a Mother's Day celebration, doubling the filling that time. Now, I can sufficiently say that this dessert is a major WIN and one of my favorites ever. Thanks, PW!
Speaking of wins...you must, must, MUST try this salad that I made for my mom on said Mother's Day celebration: Asian Noodle Salad. Yes, it's a Pioneer Woman recipe. I have a problem and I admit it. Warning: it makes enough food to feed an army. Fact: my mom and I ate half of it.
Here are some cupcakes I made using a recipe from Everyday with Rachael Ray for Reese's inspired cupcakes. Definitely one of my favorite cupcake recipes now...I took them to work thinking I would still have some left over when I went home...I was wrong. I was so, so wrong.
Here is a picture of some basil that I planted on April 29th. My Aqua Globe is pretty fly, I know. And yeah, they were just seeds at this point...so I'm actually just making you look a picture of a pot of dirt. BUT!...
On this day, Thursday, May 20th, 2010...I have basil that is green and actually growing and smelling like basil!
It isn't much...but I'm so proud. I might go outside and look at it pretty much every day. Like...really look at it. Maybe.
Now, what else have I been up besides being a culinary-obsessed amateur gardener, you say? Work. I mostly work. However, I am in currently in the process of securing more work, but in another city: Memphis, TN. I have had some luck so far, but I don't know anything for certain at the moment. I am hoping to find out something big before next Friday, so, pray for me or cross your fingers on that. I also took the GRE today and am happy with my score. I'm checking things off the list!
Here's hoping I'm a Tennessee resident in the next month or two. Hope you guys enjoyed this little photo-tour and hope to share something with you soon!
